Vastu Shastra is the science of directions, spaces and their influences on human beings. According to this Indian science of construction, all the directions are defined as per the position of Sun as it has an important role to play in our lives. As per this wonderful science, there are eight cardinal directions which form the basis of the study and calculations. Each direction has some significance and every activity that we do should be in synchronization with the per-requisites of that direction.
This article brings to you the importance of all these eight directions. Let us have a look at each of these directions and know what kind of influence they can have on our lives.
The Four Main Directions in Vastu Shastra
As per Vastu Shastra, there are four main directions which form the four pillars. These are the main zones which affect our lives. They have been mentioned below:
It is also known as Uttara. This zone is ruled by Lord Kuber who is the God of Wealth. Hence, this side of the building should be kept clean, tidy and light. In fact, you must place your safe in such a way that it opens in this direction for more money and wealth in your house.
This is also known as Dakshina direction. This is the zone of Lord Yama who is the God of Death. This zone is not very healthy so make sure that you neither have your kitchen in this direction nor you sleep with your feet facing this side.
This is the Purva direction in Hindi. This is the purest zone as in this direction the Sun rises. Lord Indra and Lord Surya rule this zone. This is an auspicious zone where you can have your kid’s room. Make sure that you keep this direction light, fresh and clean.
This is the Pashcima zone which is ruled by the God of Rains, Lord Varun. Hence, you can place your water tank on this side.
The Four Secondary Directions in Vastu Shastra
After the main zones, there are four secondary sides which are equally important in Vastu as they also have the potential to influence our lives. They are:
- North East
This is known as the Ishanya zone which is ruled by Lord Ishanya, who is the God of all the Quarters.
- North West
This is known as the Vayavya zone. This direction is ruled by Lord Vayu, who is the God of Winds.
- South East
This is the Agneya zone because it is ruled by Lord Agni who is the God of Fire.
- South West
This is the Nairutya zone. This direction is ruled by Pitru who are the ancestors.
Other than these eight zones, there is another important zone which needs to be taken into consideration while studying constructions.
Central Zone or Brahmasthan
This is one of the most important parts of any plot. It is believed that this is the center of the plot and hence must be kept vacant. No construction should be done on this part as this is the point from where all the other Vastu directions are determined. This is the point of energies on the plot which is responsible for dispersing it in different directions and balancing it. Having construction in this area blocks the source of main energy.
All these are the important directions in Vastu and must be kept in mind while constructing any building. Keeping in focus all these zones and their significance can be helpful in managing the house with positive aura.
